Abstract

Double neutron star merger is one of the most important research topics in physics and astronomy. This report will review the research history of the subject, introduce the research progress of the first double neutron star merger event GW170817, and analyze the key issues that need to be resolved.

 

About the speaker

DAI Zigao is a professor at the Department of Astronomy, University of Science and Technology of China. His research focuses on high-energy astrophysics. He has published more than 270 SCI papers, which have been cited more than 10,000 times. He has been selected as the Elsevier Highly Cited Researcher for six consecutive years. He was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 1998, and was appointed a Changjiang Distinguished Professor in 2002. He won a second prize of the National Natural Science Award and two first prizes of the Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education as the project leader. Among the doctoral students he trained, 4 of them won the National Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award, and 4 of them won the Excellent Young Scientists Fund or the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. He presided over the first Creative Research Group Project for Astronomy of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the "National Program on Key Basic Research Project (973 Program)"of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
