Brief introduction of the Lecturer: Academician Yong Chen graduated from China University of Technology (Faculty of Geophysics) in 1965. Mr. Chen has been working in the field of seismology and experimental rock physics. From 1966 to1973 Mr. Chen conducted theoretical study of seismological observations and focal physics at the Xingtai earthquake site. From 1974, he has been studying and conducting research on “Properties of Rock under high temperature and high pressure.” In 1990s, Mr. Chen focused on global earthquake disaster prediction research. In recent years, he has gotten engaged in artificial source (Air Gun) seismology and rock physics research. Mr. Chen has served as the Director of Geophysics Department of the China Earthquake Administration and Deputy Director of the China Earthquake Administration. In 1993, Mr. Chen was elected as an academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He won the “Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Award For Scientific and Technological Development” in 1998. In the year 2000, he was elected as an academician of the “Third World Academy of Sciences.”
