Title: Satellite Observation and Simulation of Energy and Water Cycle on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

Speecher: Researcher Shi Jiancheng (National Space Science Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences)

Time: January 12, 2024 (Friday), 15:30-17:00

Location:Room. 206, Building No. 3

Abstract:
The key scientific issues addressed in the report are: 1) the spatial and temporal distribution and variation characteristics of energy and water circulation on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau? 2) the causes and dominant factors that cause the surface water volume and changes on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau? The report will showcase our ability to reveal the spatial and temporal distribution and variation characteristics of energy and water circulation systems adapted to the special conditions on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau through satellite network observation methods, high-resolution climate-land surface models, and multi-layer hydrological model simulation and assimilation, revealing the spatial and temporal distribution and variation characteristics of the four major elements (precipitation, evapotranspiration, surface runoff, and land water storage changes) of water balance in the Asian water tower, as well as the causes of the changes. This will provide key support for achieving breakthroughs in understanding the scientific laws of changes on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, as well as for rational utilization of water resources and evaluation of social sustainable development.
